Having lived in the ‘land of the long white cloud’ a.k.a. New Zealand for more than half of my life, I’ve come to appreciate what a great country we have here. Blue sky and white clouds stretching into the horizon; the most dramatic sunsets after a rainstorm and beautiful waterways. It never ceases to amaze me each time. I look forward to sharing these moments with my daughter, J, in the coming years.
Ever since I was a little girl I have loved all things relating to the nature, so it is only fitting and not the least bit unexpected that I would find myself working in the resource management area.
My work requires me to travel from time to time, which takes me away from S and J. I miss them terribly, however the job does give me a great sense of satisfaction in knowing I’ve contributed to protecting NZ’s natural environment.
I find it easier to write things down (or type in this day and age, for I do type faster than I write, and my handwriting could be unforgivingly indecipherable when I am in a hurry). The ability to sort through my thoughts before speaking is immensely relieving too. I’ve had many ‘ah-ha’ moments when I write things down, where as if I had done it only in the space of my head, I would have given up long before reaching that interesting light bulb moment.
This blog is about the things I love to do most; photography, cooking and family (and therefore photographing my family and my kitchen delights). I believe that the food we hold most dear to is the food we eat at our homes. This blog is about sharing them and hopefully inspiring others to create them in their own homes. Through this journey I hope to find out more about myself too.
This is also my mobile cookbook for whenever and whereever a need for a trusted recipe arises. The recipes here are wide ranging: desserts including cakes, macarons, tarts, entrements and Chinese desserts; meals that reflect our Hong Kong heritage and New Zealand culture. Most of all, a celebration of the plentiful and nourishing local produce.
I am very grateful to be given products to try by many producers. If I feature them, it will be because I actually purchase them and honestly like the product.
I hope you enjoy reading and following my adventure; Happy cooking!
